iPanel INTAGE Vietnam: Shopper Panel and Purchase Data

iPanel INTAGE is INTAGE Vietnam’s shopper panel for studying recorded purchase behavior. Members submit receipt images and product barcode scans through a mobile application. The resulting data helps brand, category, sales and trade marketing teams examine who buys, what they buy, where they shop and how purchases change over time.

This is a business research service focused on five major Vietnamese cities. Use it to investigate shopping baskets, repeat purchase and brand switching, alongside the sample and category coverage available for your question.

iPanel INTAGE follows individual shoppers rather than treating every purchase as a household-level decision. Members are recruited, verified and trained to record shopping in the INTAGE application. A purchase record is evidence of a reported transaction; it does not by itself explain the buyer’s motivation.

The panel design described in INTAGE’s product materials comprises 6,000 shoppers across Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Can Tho. The map illustrates that design. Confirm the active sample for the period and subgroup you need before commissioning an analysis.

How are purchases recorded?

Two complementary recording methods support transactions with and without printed receipts. Receipt images and product scans reduce dependence on retrospective recall, while completeness and coding still require quality checks.

How i-Panel INTAGE records shopping data

Receipt capture

Members photograph receipts from purchases such as supermarkets, convenience stores, e-commerce and food-service outlets. The receipt can provide outlet, date, product, quantity and spending details where those fields are present and readable.

Product barcode scanning

For purchases without printed receipts, members scan the packaged product barcode and submit supporting product information or images. A barcode identifies a product; it does not establish the price, quantity or purchase occasion on its own. Those details require the accompanying record and checks.

Channels and categories in the collection design

The collection design includes modern trade, traditional trade, food-service outlets and e-commerce. Category examples in the product materials include FMCG, pharmaceuticals, out-of-home food and beverages, electronics, fashion and entertainment.

Coverage in the illustration describes the collection framework, not a guarantee that every outlet, SKU or subgroup has sufficient observations. Confirm category definitions, included channels, dates, available fields and usable sample before making comparisons.

How are purchase insights delivered?

iPanel INTAGE can organize purchase records into an interactive Power BI dashboard. INTAGE’s product description specifies daily data updates; the latest complete reporting period and the timing of quality checks should be confirmed for each delivery. Daily updates should not be treated as a live census of every market transaction.

  • Review shopper profiles, category reach, purchase frequency and spending.
  • Compare brand and channel patterns within a consistent reporting base.
  • Follow new-product purchases and changes around promotional periods.

Changes observed during a campaign show association. Isolating the campaign’s effect requires a suitable comparison design and consideration of price, distribution and seasonality.

What can the purchase records explain?

Purchase information recorded by iPanel INTAGE
i-Panel INTAGE’s 6-angle framework for analyzing shopping behavior
  • Who buys? Examine the available shopper profile and the number of contributing buyers.
  • What is bought? Analyze coded categories, brands, pack sizes or SKUs where records support the detail.
  • Where and when? Compare recorded channels and periods using consistent definitions.
  • How much? Review spending per trip, basket composition and purchase frequency.

Transaction data describes recorded behavior. Interviews or surveys can complement it when a decision requires reasons, unmet needs or perceptions.

Strengths and limits of shopper panel data

Individual-level records connect repeat purchases across time. Receipt and barcode evidence can add detail that a one-off recall question may miss, while multi-channel recording helps teams investigate channel shifts within the covered panel.

These strengths do not remove missing-record risk, recruitment effects or small subgroup bases. A useful analysis states the eligible shoppers, observation window, category rules and any weighting. It distinguishes findings supported by the sample from questions that need additional research.

Panel size, geography and reporting bases

The published design describes 6,000 active shoppers and 600 backup shoppers in the five cities named above. Backup shoppers are not an additional reporting base. A particular brand, channel or demographic cut will usually contain fewer observations than the whole panel.

Panel quotas use gender, age, marital status and personal income. Five-city coverage should not be described as automatic national or rural representativeness. Ask for the current sample design, weighting and base-size rules relevant to the intended population.

Recruitment and member checks

INTAGE’s published methodology describes direct offline recruitment, individual application access, phone and device checks, a profile questionnaire, application training and periodic profile updates. These steps are designed to reduce duplicate or unsuitable membership and support consistent recording.

Before commissioning a study, discuss how eligibility, recruitment, replacement and profile checks affect the available sample. The individual tracking unit should remain distinct from household-level inference.

Supporting continued participation

How i-Panel INTAGE maintains member engagement and participation

The member application includes engagement activities, points and rewards to encourage continued participation. Maintaining the panel also requires attention to recording gaps and changes in who remains active; incentives alone do not establish complete or unbiased coverage.

Processing and quality control

Receipt images are processed using optical character recognition, automated product mapping and data checks. A quality-control team reviews unusual patterns and exceptions, helping turn submitted records into structured purchase data.

Quality assessment should consider unreadable receipts, incomplete records, product coding, duplicate submissions and the reporting base. Confirm the checks, exclusions and limitations used for your deliverable instead of assuming that automation makes every observation error-free.

From category trends to SKU analysis

Analysis can move from industry and category to subcategory, brand/manufacturer and SKU, subject to sufficient data. Reach, frequency, trip value and share measures need an explicit denominator, time window and market definition.

For example, a fall in average basket value can reflect fewer items, a different category mix, a channel shift or lower prices. Examine those components before choosing a promotion. This is an illustrative interpretation, not a published iPanel result.

Business decisions supported by purchase data

Start with a decision and select measures that can test the competing explanations. A brand recruiting buyers needs a different analysis from a brand whose existing buyers purchase less often.

  • Retention: examine repeat purchase using a defined eligible cohort and observation period.
  • Channel planning: compare buyer overlap and spending by channel within the covered population.
  • Pricing and promotions: review pack mix, price paid and purchase patterns with relevant context.

Panel trends can inform a decision; they do not guarantee growth or establish causation by themselves.

Prepare an iPanel research brief

Share the category, brands, target shoppers, cities, channels, reporting period and decision deadline with INTAGE Vietnam. State whether you need a one-off analysis or repeated tracking.

Ask to review an appropriate sample dashboard or report during consultation, together with coverage, available metrics, base sizes, update timing and deliverable scope. Confirm any data access and permitted use in the project agreement.

Questions about using iPanel INTAGE

Does iPanel measure shopping behavior or opinions?

Its core purpose is to analyze recorded purchases. Purchase evidence can show behavior; surveys and qualitative research can add reasons and attitudes.

Does five-city coverage represent all Vietnam?

Not automatically. An inference must match the sample, weighting, category and period used. Confirm the relevant population before using a result outside the covered cities.

Is this a registration page for paid surveys?

No. This page presents INTAGE Vietnam’s business data service. The panel recruitment approach described above is distinct from open online survey registration.
